Position Overview

The United Nations Foundation links the UN’s work with others around the world, mobilizing the energy and expertise of business and non-governmental organizations to help the UN tackle issues including climate change, global health, peace and security, women's empowerment, poverty eradication, energy access, and U.S.-UN relations.

The Nothing But Nets Spring 2021 Development Intern will work closely with the Grassroots Development Officer, Development Coordinator, and other members of the fundraising team. An ideal Development Intern would exhibit strong interpersonal skills, flexibility, and interest in working on a variety of aspects as related to the campaign’s fundraising initiatives.

Internship Expectations

The Development Intern will work with the Nothing But Nets Development Team to support the campaign’s many fundraising initiatives, including but not limited to grassroots donor stewardship, outreach to schools and faith-based organizations, research and prospecting, and supporting the development of materials, toolkits, reports, and presentations.

Applicants should have an understanding of and interest in grassroots campaigns and nonprofit development. Flexibility and interest in working on a variety of aspects of the campaign is critical, including grassroots engagement, stewardship, partnerships, and general fundraising. This role will include the following responsibilities:

Donor Stewardship

Write thank you notes to new and existing donors.
Conduct welcome calls to new donors that we have contact info for.
Support with impact report creation/stewardship mailings.
Support with lapsed monthly donor recapture and outreach.

Grassroots Fundraisers Outreach

Support with the creation of fundraising tools and resources for schools and other community organizations.
Conduct targeted outreach to these groups and support fundraising activities.

Partnerships Support

Support the campaign’s many partnerships with organizations, corporates and celebrities by helping develop campaign materials, toolkits, reports, and presentations.
Support with prospect research efforts as appropriate.
Conduct research and support with prospecting for the development of new campaign partnerships.

Selection Criteria

Intern must be enrolled in a degree-granting program during the internship or must be a recent graduate (within eight months of graduation) with a demonstrated interest in the UN and international development.
Background knowledge in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, International Studies, Global Health, or African Studies preferred. Excellent oral and written communications skills and experience in Microsoft Office Suite required.
Ability to take initiative, be a self-starter and strong organizational skills preferred.
Ability to work 30-40 hours/week.
Must have a personal laptop computer and access to the Internet.

Benefits and Compensation

The United Nations Foundation offers unpaid full and part-time internships. We are happy to host interns who are able to receive academic credit or a stipend through their college or university. However, please note that it is not a requirement in order to intern with us.
